 An important part of coping with a recession is to maintain your marketing activities. After all, with fewer consumer dollars in circulation, each one that you capture gives you that much more of a competitive advantage. Maintaining your market presence, then, is paramount. Well, these are lessons that are not lost on Bingo.com. Their VP of Business Development, Jason Williams, recently took the time to answer some of my questions, and it's clear that Bingo.com is focusing on marketing activities that emphasize ROI. They're appealing directly to players, maintaining their presence across channels, and constantly analyzing their user-base so that they can segment and target them accordingly.

Maurits Bruggink, executive director of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, voices his skepticism about France's proposed gambling regulations -- especially the seemingly high taxation rate.

He specifically questions three items and tells us how these regulations could affect the horse racing industry in France. Mr. Bruggink will be on hand at the European Gambling Briefing, which takes place April 22-23 in Budapest, discussing collaborations between betting operators and sporting bodies.

Onto the harder commercials, which gave me the most need for concentration (maths/data is not my strong point!), where it’s obvious number crunching, clever systems and loads of data are what will drive growth and margins for in-play betting, customer behaviour and improved pricing. But most bookies know that the place for traders is here to stay, too.

So, what did we all learn at BetMarkets 09? Doing no justice to the details and intricate knowledge of the speakers and delegates, I’ll forge ahead and give my general impressions.

I-gaming software supplier WagerWorks has come out of its shell in recent months with a plethora of content partnerships. GM Oliver Lofthouse summarizes the impetus of a productive 2008 and teases a branded game soon to roll out with the debut of a major motion picture.
